World Football Summit: How winning 2017’s WFS startcup has changed things for ThermoHuman

18/07/2018 News

We have been recently interviewed by World Football Summit’s representatives. As last year’s Startcup winners, we have been talking through our evolution as a company, our vision of the future, and how winning 2017’S WFS STARTCUP HAS CHANGED things for the better for us.

Ismael, it’s a pleasure to have you with us today, the first thing we want to know is: Where does the idea of Thermohuman come from?

The idea arose in the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports Science (INEF) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid 9 years ago when we were studying the subject of new technologies in physical activity. Professor Manuel Sillero and two students, Pedro Gómez Carmona and I, discovered that with a thermal imaging camera (which measures skin temperature by representing it in a color image), key factors related to injuries and discomfort in athletes could be analyzed.

Nine years later, this group has evolved into a company called ThermoHuman, more than 35 scientific articles have been published, 8 doctoral thesis, and results of up to 90% reduction of the days of injury in professional soccer teams have been obtained. Also, thermography has began to be used worldwide, and we have clients from various sports áreas around the world.

What has it meant for you to win the StartCup and be part of the history of the World Football Summit? In which ways has it benefited you?

World Football Summit has become in a very short time an event of reference both nationally and internationally. Having had the fortune to participate and win the StartCup has been an immense help in our great goal of publicizing the application of thermography for the prevention and monitoring of injuries in sports and health. The exposure and impact it has had is difficult to measure, but it has certainly helped us to improve our positioning and brand image, and that is something very valuable for a project like ours. Thanks for that!”
