Atlético de Madrid & ThermoHuman – Infrared Thermography in La Liga 2018

30/06/2018 News

During this season, Spanish First Division team Atlético de Madrid (flamant winners of UEFA Europa League 2018) and ThermoHuman worked together with their medical staff by aiding via infrared thermography in the prevention of injuries and evaluation of the players’ physical condition. Thanks to PhD Ismael Fernandez Cuevas (Sport Scientist expert in the use of this technology), the team became part of the selective group of elite Spanish football clubs benefiting from this leading edge technology.

ThermoHuman is a technological company borned in Madrid (Spain), worldwide pioneer in the application of infrared thermography for helping decision making via thermal metrics in injury prevention and monitoring in sports and health sectors. With a 9-year R&D experience, more than 35 published research articles, and various innovation awards obtained throughout their trajectory, ThermoHuman is applying its knowledge nowadays with several professional football teams around the world in countries such as United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Brazil, Mexico and USA.

Their home-developed software uses computer vision and machine learning algorithms, which allows it to automatically analyze each player’s thermal images to detect and measure thermal data. The software carries out a deep individual analysis of the athlete’s thermal responses for understanding the physiological internal processes measured both before and/or after the workout.

You can find the whole story in the official web site of Atlético de Madrid here and in Diario MARCA.

Europa Thermohuman ThermoHuman has had the support of the Funds of the European Union and the Community of Madrid through the Operational Programme on Youth Employment. Likewise, ThermoHuman within the framework of the Export Initiation Program of ICEX NEXT, had the support of ICEX and the co-financing of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

CDTI Thermohuman has received funding from the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), in participation with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), for the R+D activities involved in creating a new tool, based on thermography, for the prediction and prevention of rheumatoid arthritis.
